General Rules



General Rules:


An open-wheeled ‘stock’ Formula One class and a closed-wheel Modified or ‘Mod’ class will run on alternate months.


Championship points are awarded as follows after each event: 160 - 130 - 110 - 90 - 80 - 70 -60 - 55 - 50 - 45 - 40 - 35 - 30 - 28 - 26 - 24 - 22 - 20 - 18 - 16 - 14 - 12 - 10 - 9 - 8 - 7 - 6 - 5 - 4 - 3 - 2 - 1


The two class championships, a combined championship, junior and adult categories and a combined 'Rookie of the Year' championship run from January to December.


A racer is deemed a 'junior' if they have not reached their 16th birthday by the first race of the championship.


The 'Rookie of the Year' competition is for racers who have not raced in more than 3 HO race events before the start of the season. It runs on a different points system (the same as the Nascar 'Rookie of the Year'): 10-9-8-7-6-5-4-3-2-1

.

For all classes and chassis:


No part of the car can exceed 34mm in width and 17mm from centreline to sides


Bodies may be ballasted, but ballast must be glued firmly in place.


Racers' cars can be scrutineered at any point during a race event to see they comply and are within the rules.


All scrutineering will be carried out by Who Racing organisers and their decisions will be final.


 

Maintenance:


Tyres may only be cleaned with tape or by washing in water.


No spray oils, lubricants or cleaners to be used indoors. Use of lighter fluid or any form of tyre treatments is not allowed.


The organisers reserve the right to request competitors to use less lubricants if they feel it interferes with others or the condition of the track.

                                                                                      

Controllers:


Controllers must terminate with a 3-pin, 2 amp plugs, brake wire connected to the top pin. Our tracks are wired to the worldwide HO standard, with +ve left rail.


Controllers wired for +ve right rail should not be used without consultation with the manufacturer, in all events racers use such controllers entirely at their own risk and we accept no responsibility for any damaged caused.



Rules for individual Classes




F1 Rules:

Chassis must be one of the following:

Tyco/Mattel 440x2, Life Like ‘M’, Micro-Scalextric (with braids), Tomy Racing Turbo, Tomy Mega-G, Tomy Super Racing Turbo (SRT) or Tomy Super-G+.

No part of the chassis may be cut, sanded, drilled or otherwise interfered with. All wear must be by natural means only. No components may be glued in place.No part of the car can exceed 34mm in width and 17mm from centreline to sides.
 

Bodies:

Bodies must be open-wheeled and constructed entirely of molded plastics or cast resin. Lexan bodies are not permitted. Bodies may be ballasted, but ballast must be glued firmly in place. Front wings can be re-enforced or removed.. Rear wings must be intact at the start of each pair of heats and finals. Breakages should be repaired between each pair of heats and before finals.

No body should be permanently glued to a chassis or any of its components.
 

Motors:

Motor magnets must be stock items and in stock location. Magnets must not be shimmed or glued in place. Magnets may be marked to indicate polarity.

Armatures must also be stock items, original to that chassis type and with no alterations such as balancing, epoxy-ing, de-winding, commutator truing etc.

Motor bearings must be stock items, where present.
 

Traction Magnets:

Traction magnets must be stock items in stock location. Magnets must not be shimmed or glued in place. Magnets may be marked to indicate polarity.

The Tomy SG+ must run with the current black magnets (the older grey ‘two dot’ magnets are not allowed in this class).

The Tomy SRT runs with the original Tomy SRT magnet block and original Tomy AFX neo magnets set in a ‘neutral’ postition - as supplied by the club on a first-come-first-served basis.

Guide:
Guide must be a stock item, be located in the stock position and must not be glued in place. Wear must be by natural means only.

Tomy Mega-G must run with ISU guide pin which allows front of the car to run as stock. The ISU guide pin is available from the club.
 

Electrics:

No silver or gold plated components permitted. Shunts are not permitted. Electrical tabs may be reshaped but no material removed or added.

Any make of non-plated pick-up shoes and springs can be used, except for the MicroScalextric chassis which must run with pick-up braids. Shoes and springs may be reshaped but no material can be removed or added.

Any make of brushes and brush springs may be used in the Tyco/Mattel 440x2, Life Like ‘M’ and the Tomy Mega-G. Brush barrels and end-bell brush systems must be stock parts and unaltered.
 

Axles, Hubs & Tyres:

Front axle and front wheels must be original stock items, no material may be added or removed. No spacers permitted.

Rear axle must be stock item and no additional spacers permitted.

Any type of rear wheels can be used, but must have no sharp edges.

Tyres must be single compound and black in colour. Tyres may be re-profiled. ‘O’ ring front tyres are not permitted.

Tyco 440x2, Tomy Racing Turbo, Life Like ‘M’ and Micro Scalextric (with braids) have the option of using any size tyres.

Tomy Mega-G, Tomy Super Racing Turbo (SRT) and Tomy Super-G+ have a minimum tyre height of .453” (11.5mm). For example, stock hubs and .458” ‘Tomy’ Supertires. Tyre heights will be checked at the start of racing and may be re-checked at the start of each set of heats and finals. 


Gears:

Pinion gear, crown gear and spacer must be stock items. Tomy Turbo 22 tooth crown gear may be used in Turbo chassis only.

 Modified Rules:


Chassis must be one of the following:

Tomy Turbo, Tyco 440/440X2, *Life-Like M & Rokar X, Marchon MR1, A.F.X Mega-G MG17 MkI & MkII, Artin F, Autoworld Super III, Scalextric MR1/Micro, A.F.X Mega-G MG15, Tomy SRT, Autoworld X-traction Ultra/G, Strombecker MR1, *Tomy SG+, Tomy Takara Owner's,*Life-Like T, Sun Fai JJ.

The G3 flexible, medium or stiff chassis can be only used as a replacement for the *Tomy Super G chassis.

 

No part of the chassis may be cut, sanded, drilled, glued or otherwise interfered with unless it is for the purpose of fitting a body to the chassis or to access enclosed traction magnets. All general wear must be by natural means only.


No part of the car can exceed 34mm in width and 17mm from centreline to sides.

 

Bodies:

Must be closed-wheel, and based on a real car. Where wings were featured on the real car, they must be present. Bodies must have sensible colour/paint schemes no flames, blobs or cartoon characters. Racing strips, race numbers and motorsport logo’s are permitted. Windows should be clear or painted to contrast with body.Lexan and other lightweight bodies may run without front wheel cut-outs but the front wheels must be clearly visible though the front wheel wells.

 

No body should be permanently glued to a chassis or any of its components.

 

Motors:

Stock and original manufacturer magnets only and only two motor magnets being used in any chassis at a time. Stock manufactures armatures only with no alterations such as balancing, expoxing, dewinding etc. Armatures must be approx 6 ohm with exception to the Life Like T and the Tyco X2 chassis.

The Tyco X2 can have the Mattel/Tyco 3.5 ohm arm fitted.


No motor bearings allowed.

 

Traction Magnets:

Maximum of two traction magnets. Open choice on strength and material but must retain standard chassis position and size.

 

Guide:

One guide device per car. Open choice.


Electrics:

Standard electrics only. Open choice on pick ups. Shunts are not permitted.

 

Electrical tabs may be reshaped but no material removed or added.

 

Axles, Hubs & Tyres:

Axles can any make, but must be metal, and solid.Independent front ends are not permitted with exception to the *Life Like T.

 

O-rings may be used as front tyres.

 

You may use any type of wheel/hub; no sharp edges will be permitted.

 

Tyres must be single compound and black in colour. Sidewall writing and detailed racing tyres is permitted. Tyres may be re-profiled.

 

Gears:

Open choice.







 
Nascar Rules:


Chassis must be one of the following:

Tomy SG+, A.F.X Mega-G MG15, *Life-Like T and M chassis, Rokar X, Tomy Turbo/Irwin Turbo+, *Tyco/Mattel chassis.

No part of the chassis may be cut, sanded, drilled or otherwise interfered with. All wear must be by natural means only. No components may be glued in place. No part of the car can exceed 34mm in width and 17mm from centreline to sides.

 

Bodies:

Body must match in appearance that of a NASCAR and carry at least a racing number and a sponsor. Body colour and paint scheme does not need to match that of a real life NASCAR. Bodies must be closed-wheeled and constructed entirely of moulded plastics or cast resin. Lexan bodies are not permitted.

 

No body should be permanently glued to a chassis or any of its components.

 

Motors:

Stock and original manufacturer magnets only and only two motor magnets being used in any chassis at a time. Stock manufactures armatures only with no alterations such as balancing, expoxing, dewinding etc. Armatures must be approx 6 ohm with exception to the Life Like 3 ohm armature which must be only used with *Life Like T chassis.

 

No motor bearings allowed.

 

Traction Magnets:

Traction magnets must be stock and original manufacturer items in there original chassis position.

 

Guide:

Guide pin must be original item. Wear must be by natural means only.

 

Electrics:

Standard manufacturer or stock electrics only. Shunts are not permitted. Electrical tabs may be reshaped but no material removed or added. Pickups choice is open.

 

Axles, Hubs & Tyres:

Front axle must be original stock item; no material may be added or removed. Spacers are permitted. Independent front ends are not permitted with exception to the *Life Like T.

 

Rear axle must be stock item. Additional spacers are permitted.

 

You may use any type of wheels/hubs, no sharp edges permitted.

 

O-rings may be used as front tyres.

 

Tyres must be single compound (rubber, silicone or urethane) and black in colour. Tyres may be re-profiled.

 

Gears:

Pinion gear, crown gear and any rear axle spacers must be original or stock manufacture items..
